Birthdays & Baseball

Happy birthday Frunnie! (according to her cake), we love you our little four year old. Thanks for being so sweet, so sassy, and too too funny.

Plus, the boys summertime baseball leagues are in full effect.

North Shore

Last Saturday we took a little road trip up to the north shore. We visited Evanston and Winnetka, parks, bakeries and beaches.

But we also love the amenities right here in Oak Park.

How to best protect Frannie when she's practicing being caught in a pickle?

Soccer Star!

Look who's joined the soccer set. Frannie had her first soccer practice today. When she got home she showed me some of her moves, with her milkshake still in hand. Just like the pros do it!

All Star

We've known it all along, but now it's official, Henry Jay is an All-Star. He played in his first All-Star game today for the OPYBS Tee-Ball B team. It was a game of ups and downs, but the quality of play was fantastic since these kids were all chosen by their coaches to represent their respective teams.

Henry made some terrific plays in the field, and tried his hardest everywhere, running as fast as he could and being a good teammate.

Hopefully Henry's All-Star experience will carry over to the Wombats next week when the playoffs start.

Hammerin Henry Jay

Another Saturday morning in the books and another Wombats win. Thanks in part to Sportsman of the Game Henry Jay who sped all the way around the bases with this home run hit.

(I apologize for the shaky camera and the deafening cheering. I'm an excitable assistant coach. I'll try to work on my volume.)

But his home run isn't why he won Sportsman of the Game. That award is given to the teammate who best supports his fellow Wombats, sets a good example, and helps constructively mentor the younger Wombats. We give out one Sportsman of the Game and one Player of the Game award after every game.

Henry won Player of the Game last night after his grand slam and unassisted double play in the same inning as part of a thrilling come-from-behind win.

Wombats are 5-0. Way to play Wombats!

Cruising the Block

It may be Frannie's Hello Kitty convertible, but she doesn't drive. She leaves that to her brothers. So Miller drives. And sings. And Frannie just gets to cruise the block in style. And do some passenger side dancing.

What's Miller Eating?

Pork Chomp.

But he's going to need to eat like this in order to keep up his strength for monkey bar kickboxing battles

Twinkle Toes

The Ohlhoffs had a pretty nice little Saturday lined up.

The Wombats returned to the field for their first game of the season. Henry had some great hits and some very nice defensive plays including a couple put outs at first.

Then Frances joined her Twinkle Toes dance group to perform their first dance recital and she did a great job! That's her, third from the left, eyes on her teacher most of the time.

Play ball!

It's Wombat season everybody. Today the guys had their first preseason scrimmage. Next Saturday is the season opener.

They looked good out there today, including the capable and calming presence of Henry Jay at first base.

Spelling Bee

Henry Jay emerged victorious from the Mann School Spelling Bee for first graders tonight. He lasted about 7 rounds and beat more than twenty other first graders. To win, he had both to spell the word his classmate missed, "enroll," as well as his own word, "freedom." Then he could run off the stage and into his Mommy's arms.
