Baby Shower!

Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who attended (or who sent presents in lieu of attending) Ali's (and my) very first baby shower on Saturday. From what I gather the ladies in attendance all seemed to enjoy themselves while all the daddies spent time together back at the house with the kiddies.

Thanks to your generosity our house is now over-run with little girl outfits, pajamas, and onesies and Ali's not the only one who's oooh-ing and ahhh-ing over all the pink cuteness.

Yes, that's a pink tutu and barrette that Henry tried on.

Henry's so excited for his baby sister to arrive. Last night he handed Ali one of his little baby dolls that occasionally sleeps in his bed and told her that when baby sister gets here she can snuggle with the doll, it's hers now. He's so sweet, he's going to be a great big brother to his baby sister.

Meanwhile Miller has also plundered the booty for baby sister for his latest prized possession. Rivaling only doggy in the Miller toy hierarchy is now Violet the dog, but Miller calls her "pup." She can be found clutched in his arms while he sleeps at night, right next to doggy in his other arm.

Role Models

When you get a visit from your younger cousin, you have to set a good example. So Peter John, pay attention, and Henry and Miller will show you the proper way to behave.

This is how you play circus acrobat on the couch

This is how to smile for your breakfast portrait

Miller's turn:

Henry's turn:

Perfect!

When Mommy asks for your 'silly face,' show it!

You're never too big to climb into a pack and play and sample someone else's binky/nook

When you get home from school, teach Mommy your new songs

Try to learn how to wink on command

And if you must jump on the bed, make it the mattress on the floor instead, and try reciting the "no more monkey's jumping on the bed" song while you're at it, for an ironic effect

Please excuse the picture-free post ...

... there are pictures from the weekend coming, we promise! But first, a quick Henry story:

Henry: "Mommy, why are moms so much nicer than dads?"

Ali, stifling laughter: "Hmmm, I don't know, Hen. I guess moms are just nicer in general."

Henry: "No, actually, Yayas are the nicest of all."

Truer words have never been spoken, Henry Jay!

Summer Camp & Father's Day

Henry started summer camp last week. 2 3-week sessions with a week break in between. It's going to be a busy summer since he's also doing t-ball and gymnastics.

And happy father's day to all the fathers in our lives. This is who let me sleep in this morning, and then who woke me up, treated to me a snack in bed, then took me out for brunch.

Is that sausage? Right there?! Yes I want some!!

So yes, we had a wonderful weekend, and I had a wonderful Father's Day

The Brothers Kratt

Chris and Martin Kratt from Warren township NJ, created the first wildlife television program designed specifically for preschoolers - called Zoboomafoo it aired on PBS from 1998 - 2001. Henry and Miller watch at least one episode every week.

Today, the Martin brothers visited the Brookfield Zoo, and not so coincidentally, so did the Ohlhoff brothers. Along with maybe as many as 2,000 other fans packing the zoo and causing a miles-long traffic jam just to get in.

Was it worth it?

Ask Henry what the anticipation was like if you can get him to sit still for a second (this reminds me of some of the dancing I saw at the last Lollapalooza):

Meanwhile, Henry had a question for the Zoboomafoo guys, but they limited the answers to the kids right in front near the microphone, so though his question went unanswered, he still had a great time.

And of course we had to swing by the carousel on the way out

It was so much fun, Miller was all smiles

All By Himself

Henry's just showing off his spelling skills.

Please note: the "E" was not reversed to give the spelling more of a childlike appearance. We're also not sure what the "S" is for, aside from possibly paying homage to the abundance of Henrys in this family.

There was also a quick breakdancing session the other night after bathtime. My favorite part is Miller's faceplant at 0:08.
