Dabbling in Babbling

Just when we were starting to get worried about Miller's lack of babbling, he gives us reason to worry no more.

And look who's finally put it all together with the bike and the pedals

All in all it was a lovely last day of July 2010.

Navy Pier and Our Latest Stroller

No, not the orange stroller pictured below, as Miller lounges lakeside. In this case, we mean a person who strolls, a.k.a. Miller!

But before we get to that big moment, there was our trip to Navy Pier and the Children's Museum last week.

Henry got to play steel drums, a guitar, and he even grabbed the mike and gave the crowd a brief but heartfelt "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." But we may have to work on his guitar grip, I'm not sure that overhand method is going to be very effective.

Then it was off to the firetruck, (Henry brought his fire helmet from home and wore it most of the day). We have a ton of them, as every time we stop by the firehouse they hand one out.

Then we released soap bubbles into the Chicago skyline. Great job making the big bubble Mommy! Henry was the self-appointed burster of bubbles and he stood at the ready with cat-like reflexes.

And then there was the train. Henry grabbed the seat up front so he could steer. We tried to get him to wave at us (as you can hear), but to no avail -- train driving is serious business, and he kept his hands on the wheel at all time to avoid any possible derailings.

And then there's Miller. Lured by a delicious basketball he took his first steps. With Henry we had to use Oberweiss ice cream, Miller just wanted that ball.

And finally, Henry rewarded Miller's big steps with a little song and dance:

I Know Why The Caged Baby Sings

Well, maybe it's not singing exactly, but it's pretty funny.

At least he made friends with the kid in the mirror!

After he had been tortured enough in his pack and play we decided to take him out for a drink.

HJ and Miller in the Mini-Apple

After a fun week in Minneapolis it was time to head back home. However the boys had other ideas. They donned a disguise and tried hijack the car to drive back to Yaya and Poppa's house but their efforts were thwarted during a driver's seat power struggle.

I should have known they were up to something when Miller kept practicing his lock-picking efforts in the kitchen. No baby-proof lock can foil the baby Hulk!

You can't blame them for trying though. They had a great time up there, lounging around an entire pool to themselves and Aunt Babu.

And modeling the latest in super-absorbent swimwear with Yaya's support:

But Henry made it pretty clear that he doesn't like getting splashed, though it's bound to happen when you try to use a pail to cover the fountain's water jets.

Then there's all the wonderful parks and swings in Minneapolis to enjoy:

And to top it all off Miller had a couple big developmental milestones recently, one which we caught on film, the other one not yet.

Clapping, pictured above and video below, and, during the drive home today we stopped at a park in Wisconsin so the boys could burn off some steam, where, Miller took his first real steps (no video yet).

Ali was with him in the grass on the side of the park and knew he was getting close, so she called me over to help. He left Daddy's hands and took 5 steps towards Mommy. It must have been all the excitement and nurturing up in Minneapolis that prepared him for his big milestone today.

Hooray Miller, first steps at 9 months and 10 days! Go on and give yourself a round of applause!

July 3rd Celebration at the Twins Game

July 4th weekend in Minnesota and we got to celebrate by going to a Twins game during the inaugural season of Target Field, the beautiful brand new Twins Stadium.

The game was kicked off by some Navy guys called, Leap Frogs parachuting on to the field on a very hot and windy day, as exciting as that was Henry Jay was more interested in his hot dog.

But Ali had to stay home with her little baby friend
