Henry Jay in July

Henry Jay's been up to his usual tricks this July.

He loves the farmer market. Not just for the very un-farmer-like donuts, but also for the fresh fruit. Recently he's been on a tear with peaches.

He especially misses Uncle Pete!

Of course he loves to play ball.

And he loves to read his truck books. Only now they are not always read to him, he does a pretty good job of telling you what is happening on many of the pages.

And last of all, what he does best: being a wonderful beautiful little boy.

A new minihoff!

I don't think this news will come as a surprise to most of you readers, but perhaps a few people haven't heard yet:

There is something funny happening to my belly.

We have consulted with a doctor on this strange phenomenon, and he has confirmed that indeed, there's someone in there. Someone who looks like this:

I had a check-up today (I have them every two weeks, on account of all my past troubles) and everything looks perfect. We are on track for a FULL TERM delivery the first week in October -- with NO bed rest! (Thanks to our miracle worker, Dr. Haney.)

We are keeping the sex a surprise this time -- contrary to popular belief, we really and truly don't know what it is. For the time being, you'll have to study that sweet little face and make your own hypotheses.

Yeah for a healthy new minihoff and a mama on her feet!

Play slaves

Henry has been lucky enough to enjoy many visits from family this summer. Nana [Mary Ann], Yaya [Iris], Papa [Jay], Pat, PopPop [Hank], Baboo [Aunt Libby], Pee [Uncle Peter] and Moowy [Aunt Mary] have all graced Oak Park in recent months, and Jessie and Uncle Jim are on their way in a few weeks.

Happily, each visitor has been more than willing to cater to Henry's every play need. In fact, our family members are so eager to do his bidding, we sometimes call them his "play slaves." Watch this video and I think you'll see what I mean:

Rest assured Henry misses all of you just as much as you miss him. Today, several times, he called out randomly, "Pee...ah you?" "Moowy...ah you?" [That's Henry-speak for "where are you?"] He also had several pretend phone calls with Moowy and Yaya. Every night when I put him to bed, we sing a goodnight song in which he calls out each of your names. And in the car, he likes to tell me whose seat is which: Daddy gets the driver's seat, PopPop rides shotgun, and Mommy and Pat go in back.

We had a great weekend visiting with Peter and Mary, as well as the Linders and MomMom. Now that they're a little more aware of one another, Henry and Wham [Liam] are becoming quite the little buddies:

Our weekend also included the Oak Park 4th of July parade. Let's just say it wasn't the most exciting parade we adults had ever seen. But it included dogs, motorcycles, drums and a fire truck, so Henry was plenty satisfied.
