Winter Wonderland

Well there's no place like Minneapolis for the holidays. Especially during a blizzard.

Somebody fell asleep after we got him into his snow suit, but before we could get him outside into the snow.

So that left the three of us to wander around in the winter wonderland on Christmas Eve. We ventured out to Starbucks by sled with Mommy and Daddy taking turns mushing.

And that's when we came across the ATV snow plow that was driven by a man nice enough to let Henry Jay take the wheel.

And finish it off with story time with Yaya's Poppa before heading off to bed.

Happy Holidays

It's been a lot of fun gearing up for the holidays. We're in Minneapolis now getting ready for Christmas with the Kiedrowskis but the last couple weeks have been a whirlwind of holiday activity.

Making Christmas cookies. Henry's favorite part was decorating the cookies with the sprinkles, charitably.

Meeting Santa. He was able to take time from his busy schedule to come see Henry and his classmates at school.

Opening presents. We opened a couple at home before coming up to Minnesota so the boys could experience a family Christmas under our Christmas tree. This is Henry after the tape he was pulling on the box in front of him finally gave way and he toppled over backwards.

Buying and decorating the Christmas tree with Uncle Pete who also provided Henry some seating.

Making a snowman.

Grabbing our seasonal pine cones after climbing up onto the dining room table in a brief unsupervised moment and removing them from their decorative bowl.

Eating the Christmas guacamole. No chips needed, a spoon or carrot sticks will be fine thank you.

Even cleaning up the Christmas toilet.

And in general just enjoying time with the family.

He's Musically Inclined

It's like the Ohlhoff family revue with Henry Jay.

Singing to Miller. Sure, maybe it's not Miller's birthday, and the timing's a little off, but you can't deny the love between these two. The look Miller gives Henry right before the first hug, priceless.

Singing Christmas carols. Thankfully Daddy was there to back him up on the bells, while Henry Jay covered the xylophone and tambourine arrangement.

Even grabbing Aunt Jan's cane to play on the saxophone. Maybe it seems more like a microphone on a stand, but his singing is definitely brass instrument. And we had the talented Uncle Hank on hand to back him up.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here's some pictures of the things we're most thankful for today, (and I suspect that you're thankful for at least some of them too).

A chunky healthy little Miller, a happy silly Henry Jay who loves his little brother, and getting to spend the holiday with family here in New Jersey.

A wonderful visit in Manhattan with Aunt Jan who got to meet and hold Miller for the first time.

A great time with family and even more happy healthy little kids like Kaitlin and Liam at Jess and Jim's wedding Saturday night. The kids loved playing with each other and we got them into their PJs before we left for a long and sleepy ride home. Henry was a big fan of the band, especially the saxophone and would dance with whoever would be his partner.

Also included is an old picture of Henry's original weding outfit, but we downgraded the sport coat in favor of an argyle vest.

And though we miss our home, falling asleep while eating enormous apples, chilling out in our favorite swings and seats, playing with our diggers, dump trucks and worker men, and showing off our ever-expanding bellies, we'll be home soon enough.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Happy Halloween!

From Halloween at the office to Halloween in Oak Park; from Henry, Miller, and all our little pumpkins, we hope you had a very happy Halloween.

I know we did!

New Tricks

Henry has a couple new tricks I thought we'd put on display.

Henry's a very good reader even if it's just a catalog. As long as the topic is trucks Henry will enjoy reading it or having it read to him. The typical storyline of a catalog for toy trucks is something like, "that digger digs, that digger digs too, that digger digs too, dump truck."

Henry also likes to whistle ever since Yaya taught him how. Though his tactic may be a little off the sentiment is the same.

Henry also loves his little brother Miller and frequently talks to him (and occasionally for him) and likes looking at him (as evidenced by yesterday's post-bath posting). We were driving to the Brookfield Zoo last week and Henry started asking Miller what he wanted to see at the zoo. He was also generous enough to provide answers for Miller as well. Ali grabbed the camera to film it and we prodded the one-sided discussion along a bit further.

And then there's Miller. He doesn't have many tricks just yet. He enjoys looking around, making faces, yawning, sleeping, and eating. About half of those items were captured in this 40-second clip.

I Spy

These pictures were taken just after Henry's bath tonight while he checked in on Miller in his crib.
