Hungry Hungry Henry

As a young and growing boy, Henry is obviously enjoying his meals. However, based on his sleep patterns he's rarely satisfied by a meal for longer than a few hours. Though this poses some challenges, particularly to his poor sleep-deprived mother, we do consider ourselves lucky that we've never had any trouble getting him to eat. He's a very good eater, and that's a wonderful trait. I sometimes wonder if the reason he arrived two months early was because he just couldn't wait any longer for his first meal on the outside.

As the following video demonstrates, even a felt-covered sheet of crinkly paper isn't safe from his clutches. When he grabs it, it sounds just like a bag of potato chips being ransacked, so I refer to it as his bag of chips. And as it goes with many people, once he gets his hands on his "bag of chips," it's a goner -- straight to the mouth.

Enjoy!

Rock Star Chef?

I'm having trouble deciding if Henry looks more like a future rock star in this picture -- strumming his spoon guitar -- or if we're looking at a future Mr. Betty Crocker. Never mind that he obviously needs some work on his utensil management; either profession looks likely. Perhaps Henry will push it one step further and become a rock star chef?

Then again, he looks like he's a straw hat away from being a cowboy on the range in this shot. That is, if the range were a crib and the tumbleweeds were his binkies.

Then again, if he cleaned up his taste in T-shirts he'd almost look presidential sitting in his chair. He can't quite keep that pose -- we just happened to snap the picture at the perfect time -- but still, he's looking pretty fit!

Lately we've been trying some new sleeping techniques. One in particular has us only swaddling in only one of his arms, instead of both like we used to. With one arm free, he can get his hand to his mouth to soothe himself, which may lead to longer stretches of sleep. For us!

Other than that things have been very cold in Chicago, but very fun!

Save FNL!

What Would Riggins Do? Save Friday Night Lights! Sign the BWE.tv Petition!

We interrupt this baby blog with a very important message. Rumor has it that Friday Night Lights, which is easily THE best show on television (even if you hate football!), is getting the ax. If you're a fan like we are, sign the petition now! (Just click on the image of Riggins above.) And even if you aren't a fan, you should still sign it, so that we have something to do on Friday nights. Hey, we're parents of a young baby who never get out of the house; please have pity for us and help keep our favorite TV show on the air.

Now back to our little cherub ... Henry would like to wish everyone a very happy Valentine's Day!

Five months old!

Hey, everyone. I've got a free moment to post because -- whaddya know? -- my baby is sleeping! Just like all the books predicted, here we are at 3 months adjusted (5 months actual) and Henry has really come into his own. We haven't had any inconsolable colic crying in about six weeks, so I think it's safe to safe we're past that stage once and for all -- goodbye crazy town, and hallelujah!

Instead, Henry now goes to bed at 7 p.m. and stays down, for the most part, until 7 the next morning. Well, O.K., he still does fuss and want to eat about two or three times during the night, but you know, we can't fault him -- that physique of his requires a lot of calories to maintain. (We think he's around 18 pounds now.)

Also, the past two nights he woke up giggling and screaming with joy at 4:30 a.m. We're not sure what that was all about, or who gave him permission to start throwing parties in is crib, but we have our eye on that darn mobile.

During the day, he's a genuinely happy guy with a flirty little personality. We took him out to breakfast yesterday and he wooed every woman in sight with a huge, gummy grin and those rosy Gerber Baby cheeks. He's laughing and squealing now, too, which makes it all the more fun to entertain him. Check it out:

A few recent pics to round out the post. Enjoy!

I think we can safely rule out the milkman with this shot. If this isn't Chris Ohlhoff's son, I don't know what.

Happy baby!

Basketball practice. I don't know about you all, but I wouldn't want to run into this guy in the lane.

And finally, a very angelic pose. His hands are his new favorite toy -- and snack.

Our little good luck charm

I can't believe Henry's first Super Bowl was a Giants win against the undefeated Patriots juggernaut. And that my dad -- Henry's namesake -- was here visiting and watched it with us. And that at halftime, right before Henry (the little one) was about to take his bath, I ran through our Super Bowl party carrying him and his naked butt yelling, "Naked baby! We're streaking the Super Bowl!"

Wow. This couldn't have been scripted any better. Henry Jay, born two days after the start of the football season, helping his Dad and Pop-Pop cheer on the Giants against the Patriots and their undefeated streak, as another winter wonderland blanketed Chicago. He's our little lucky charm.

Here are a few more photos from the weekend and the latest grandparent visit:

The ever-improving tummy time

Concentrating on his toys--he's getting quite adept at grabbing them and pulling them to his mouth (he'll need that hand-eye coordination to play for the World Champion Giants someday)

All smiles with Pop-Pop
